Director’s Message

It is hard to believe we are well into February.  Lots of new children are starting as well as old faces returning after their summer break.  A big welcome to you all and we hope you enjoy your time being involved with Campus Creche.

It can take a little while for your little ones to feel comfortable and happy at Creche.  If you are having problems settling your child please talk to a teacher who can give you strategies and help you through your difficult time.

We have recently had approval to take out a mortgage to build a new Maire building.  Plans are well underway and we hope to do the building later in the year.  We will keep you posted about how things are progressing and what will happen for the children while the new building is put onto the site and services are connected.  We are very excited that after five years of planning, this project is going to be a reality.

Sue Bennett, Director

Whekī

We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Michaela.  We look forward to getting to know you and working together in partnership.

Ka kite to Yeva who has transitioned to Kōwhai.  We wish you all the very best in your new adventures.

We are starting our teacher release this month and are all very excited to start documenting your children’s learning in the form of Learning Stories which will be displayed weekly on our “Celebrating our Learning” pin boards, placed in portfolios and on Educa.  The requirement at Whekī is at least one Learning Story per month for your child.

Please remember to contact Creche in the morning if your child is absent for the day (and state the reason for absence).  This is very important as roll numbers can effect our staffing for the day.

The weather is still nice and warm so we have lots of water play for the children. Please remember to pack a couple of sets of NAMED spare clothing and a swimming nappy each day.

Kōwhai

February has been a quiet month with lots of water play to ward off the heat.  We are so lucky to have so much of our playground in shade.  We endeavour to get our children to wear their hats but we realise it takes time for them to get used to wearing them all the time. We sunblock and bug spray the children in the mornings and after they get up from sleep and after prolonged water play.

We welcome Yeva, Svale and their families to Kōwhai.  We hope you all enjoy your time here.

We have lots of new children starting in Kōwhai when the University year starts at the end of the month.  We hope to begin our regular walks to the University in March.

Nīkau

Kia ora Nīkau whānau

The weather has been really hot recently and we have been having lots of water play. We appreciate whānau bringing a hat, swimming gear and extra changes of clothes to allow our children to fully participate in this play.

On Tuesday, 23 February, we are going to take our tamariki to Raglan Beach for a special outing. We will be able to play on the playground, have a shared lunch, explore in the sand and even go for a swim. Everyone is so excited about this trip! Could whānau please remember to bring their permission form and payment back as soon as possible so we can confirm numbers. Thank you.

This year in Nīkau, we are having a “Lunchbox Club” board located on the deck. We will be putting up some exciting lunchbox ideas and easy recipes to help our busy whānau when preparing their tamariki lunchboxes. Please feel free to share your special lunchbox ideas and recipes with us.

Our nature based curriculum including excursions to the Arboretum and University will begin next month. There will be a separate newsletter to inform and share how this will operate in 2016 shortly for Nīkau whānau.

Nelly will be going on maternity leave at the end of February. While she is away, we would like to welcome Nona to join our Nīkau teaching team. Nona is an experienced teacher who has worked in all 5 Creche centres and we look forward to having her here with us.

Maire

Kia ora Creche Whānau

We hope you are all settled back into mahi or your studies ready for what 2016 has in store for us.

We would like to say a big “Haere Ra” to Honor, Markus, Trissa, Matilda and Megan.  We wish them and their whānau all the very best and we hope you all stop by at some stage to say hello.

Nau Mai Haere Mai to our new Maire tamariki and their whānau, Noel and Sophie.  We also have two new kaiako joining us, Ilaise and Marliese who most of you would have met last year while they were here as students.

It has been really hot so far this month, so we have spent as much time as possible with water play, whether it’s in the pool, water trough or in the sand pit.

Arboretum visits have started with our first day on Wednesday, 17 February.  We usually have our tamariki in groups based on their physical abilities because the ones that can do the big walk will and the ones that get tired fast will only do the little walk until they are more able.

Lastly a big Hari huritau to all the pepe born in Hui‑tanguru.

Kauri

Kia ora Whānau

Your children are currently celebrating the Chinese New Year, making paper lanterns and dumplings. Welcome to the year of the Monkey, we are looking forward to a fantastic year with your little monkeys here at Kauri.

Our normal programmes started again this week with Group Time starting on Monday and Ngahere starting on Thursday and Friday. Please check the board to see if your child is in either of these groups and for Ngahere we need all permission slips returned before your child can attend.

We will shortly begin a Taone (Urban) Explorers group for those children not in Group Time or Ngahere. This will run every second Tuesday. We have some organising to do before we start so expect more information in the coming weeks.

Remember, we have an open door policy, so if you have skills or expertise that you think will benefit the children, please do not hesitate to let us know. We value your input.

Campus Creche Hats

We have recently purchased Campus Creche hats for our Creche children.  We think they look pretty cool. Hopefully your children will like wearing them too!  We encourage children to be sun safe and to wear hats if they are outside.

Easter Party

On Thursday, 24 March at 10.00 am we will be having our annual Easter Party.  Whekī and Kōwhai children will gather in the Kōwhai/Whekī playground for their goodies and celebration.  Nīkau, Maire and Kauri will gather in Kauri for their goodies and a visit from the Easter bunny.  You are most welcome to come along and join in the fun.
